MOPPER’S BLUES
Bill Broonzy

Well I got the mopper’s blues, I got the mopper’s blues,
I got the mopper’s blues, I got the mopper’s blues,
I got the mopper’s blues, people,
But I’m the happiest man in town.

I don’t have a home, I don’t have a home,
I don’t have a home, I don’t have a home,
I don’t have a home, people
But I’m the happiest man in town.

I ain’t got no gal, I ain’t got no gal
I ain’t got no gal, I ain’t go not gal
Well I ain’t got not gal people,
But i’m the happiest man in town.

I got to mop, (SPOKEN:I hear you talkin), I got to scrub
I got to dust, I got to sweep,
I got to mop, dust, clean, scrub and sweep
But i’m the happiest man in this town.

I got the mopper’s blues, I got the mopper’s blues,
Soapy water in my shoes, I got the mopper’s blues,
Well I got the mopper’s blues, people,
I’m the happiest man in town.

Some of these words are from Clarence Frog Man Henry’s version,
according to Steve.

Although Bill Broonzy was a great guitarist and entertainer, he did not always have an easy time of it and had to work as a janitor and maintenance man at a university in the 1930’s. This song is a great example of making the best of whatever comes along and just deciding to be happy no matter what.
Put this on when you have to clean house—(or at closing time at the deli)—it works wonders. You cannot sit still when you hear this song.
